Convert a civil year to the Hebrew year(s) it overlaps, or a Hebrew year to the civil years it spans.
Why a Jewish Year Doesn't Match a Civil Year
The Hebrew year begins on Rosh Hashanah, which falls in September or October on the civil calendar β so every civil (Gregorian) year overlaps parts of two consecutive Hebrew years, split at Rosh Hashanah. A Hebrew year, in turn, spans parts of two civil years.
Years are computed with @hebcal/core and verified against hebcal.com's date converter.
Frequently asked questions
What Hebrew year is it right now?
Enter the current civil year above β the result shows both Hebrew years it overlaps and the exact date Rosh Hashanah falls, which is the dividing line.
Why do Jewish years have such large numbers (like 5786)?
The traditional Hebrew calendar counts years from a creation-based epoch, which is why the numbers are roughly 3,760 years ahead of the civil calendar for most of the year.
